How One Email Sparked a Chain of Serendipity

You have to shoot your shot!

One morning last week, something cool happened. My inbox greeted me with Sahil Bloom’s Curiosity Chronicle, a newsletter I’ve been subscribed to for quite some time. But on this particular day it really piqued my interest.

The topic? How to Create Your Own Luck. Right up my alley!

What unfolded next what awesome.

If you’re not familiar with Sahil Bloom, you should really check him out here on X where he has over 1M followers or here on LinkedIn where he has well over 600K followers. His newsletter? That has over 800K followers. Why? Well, give him a follow and find out!

One of the principles Sahil shared in that particular newsletter was about taking bold shots—reaching out to people, making unexpected connections, and seeing where the chips fall.

He illustrated this with a personal story: A few years ago, he did a cold reach out to billionaire investor Bill Ackman after Bill interacted with one of Sahil’s posts on X. That simple action led to a conversation, a relationship, and—fast forward to today—an unexpected boost for his new book, The 5 Types of Wealth. Bill publicly endorsed Sahil’s book to his massive audience, sending waves of attention his way (it’s already a 2X New York Times best seller).

Pretty cool right? Well here’s where things got interesting for me.

Sahil’s story really struck a chord. I’ve always believed that luck favors the bold—those willing to act on curiosity and create opportunities. Inspired, I decided to take a shot myself.

I replied to Sahil’s email newsletter (screenshot below)

I reached out to someone I admire, someone I’ve hesitated to contact before. Who knows what could happen, right?

But, knowing his email inbox is likely flooded and my reply might never get seen, I took it one step further. I posted about it on both X and LinkedIn and tagged him in the posts, knowing he is active on both platforms. You have to take your shot right?

Well, he replied. On both platforms! Here’s his reply on X…

And here on LinkedIn…

Having Sahil be a guest on my podcast would be massive. Just like having Bill endorse Sahil’s new book. Will it happen? Will he come on the Happy Accidents podcast in the next few months.

You’ll have to stay tuned and find out. But it will never happen if you don’t shoot your shot!

So, here’s my challenge to you: This week, take one bold shot. Send that email. Reach out to that person. Share your idea. Let serendipity do its thing.
